AUTOMATION & SYSTEMS

Workflow automation with people in control

Connect repeatable tasks across forms, email, spreadsheets and reporting. Design the normal route, the exceptions and what happens when a step fails.

When this helps

Your team repeatedly transfers information, chases approvals, sends reminders or updates records across tools. The steps are predictable, but keeping them moving takes manual effort.

THE DETAIL THAT MATTERS

What happens when the happy path fails?

A workflow needs more than a successful demo. We agree how errors are detected, who is alerted, when a retry is safe and which decisions must return to a person.

DESIGN FOR THE EXCEPTIONS

A process needs more than one route.

NORMAL ROUTE

  1. 01Request
  2. 02Rule
  3. 03Action
  4. 04Record

EXCEPTION ROUTE

  1. 01Request
  2. 02Exception
  3. 03Human review
  4. 04Decision
  5. 05Record

FAILURE ROUTE

  1. 01Process
  2. 02Failure detected
  3. 03Alert
  4. 04Responsible owner

What the work involves

01

Map the process

Identify the trigger, required information, rules, approvals and destination for each record.

02

Define exceptions

Name the person who reviews incomplete, ambiguous or unusual cases and how they make the decision.

03

Build and test safely

Check permissions, duplicate handling, failed steps and restart behaviour using agreed test cases.

04

Plan operation

Define monitoring, ownership, maintenance and the response when a connected service changes.

What you receive

Deliverables are agreed in your quote.

  • A process map with normal, exception and failure routes.
  • The configured workflow and agreed test results.
  • Instructions for monitoring, retries and human intervention.
  • An ownership and maintenance handover.

What to prepare for an enquiry

Outline the process, current tools, users and intended result.

Please leave out sensitive records. File sharing is agreed after the initial review.

QUESTIONS

Questions about this service

What happens when a step fails?

We define failure detection, an alert and a responsible owner. Retry rules depend on whether repeating an action could create duplicate records or other unwanted effects.

Can a person still intervene?

Yes. Approval and exception routes can return work to an authorised person. We identify which decisions should remain human.

Which processes should not be automated yet?

Processes with unclear rules, unreliable inputs or unresolved responsibility usually need redesign first. High-consequence decisions also need appropriate controls and human oversight.

Who maintains the workflow?

The scope identifies an owner and the handover requirements. Ongoing support, licence costs and change requests are agreed separately.
